It is a source of nitrogen in ammonium form. Unlike other nitrogen fertilizers, it contains sulfur, one of the important plant nutrients, as well as nitrogen. It is a valuable nutrient source for soils where nitrogen and sulfur deficiency is detected together. In water-saturated areas, nitrate-containing nitrogen fertilizers are lost through denitrification (conversion from NO3 to free N2). Because of these limitations of nitrate fertilizers, ammonium sulphate can be used in all types of soils.
Ammonium sulphate can be easily applied as a top fertilizer for trees and vegetables growing in all soils that are not acidic. It is used intensively by our farmers especially in paddy agriculture.
